Box T Cowboy Camp - Families - 7 days

Enjoy some serious family togetherness on the range without computers, TVs, or cell phones. It will be a bonding experience you’ll never forget. This camp will have the same general format as regular cowboy camp, but will be geared to include children ages 12 and older. Special games and educational projects will be provided at camp if you choose to take a break from the cattle chores.

After check-in and a night in one of our guest houses, you'll receive a thorough horsemanship orientation and then a special horse and tack will be selected for your use during the week. On the first day you'll spend the day riding out to camp, getting settled in your tent, and then have time for a leisurely dinner prepared by the Camp Cookie and discussion of the upcoming weeks jobs on the range. You'll turn your horse out into a temporary corral for the night. Rise and shine around 6:00 a.m. for a hearty breakfast and watch while the cowboys jingle the horses in from the remuda. Saddle up and get ready to ride out by 8:00 a.m.

This ranch is first and foremost a cattle ranch. The Cowboy Camps are located in a large cottonwood grove with an intermittent creek nearby in the spring and fall, and on the high prairie in the summer months. It offers spacious, canvas tents one each for men and women, complete with cots or air mattresses (whichever you prefer), primitive toilet facilities, a unique hot-water shower creatively designed and housed by a tree for privacy, running water (for washing up), chairs for lounging around nightly campfires, and spacious dinner tables for dinning. Chave is our full time camp cook who is an expert at producing prodigious delicious meals. Wildlife viewing is guaranteed.

Your itenarary for the week:

Day 1: Welcome! Check in at ranch after 2:00 p.m. Get settled in guest house for the night. Dinner on your own.

Day 2: Meet at headquarters at 7:00 a.m.; horsemanship orientation; load gear into truck; ride 6 miles to camp; get settled in tents; leisurely dinner around the campfire.

Day 3: Breakfast at sun up.; saddle up and ride out by 8:00 a.m.; gather 200 head of cattle and drive them to a new pasture; return to camp in time for showers and dinner.

Day 4: Breakfast at sun up; ride out by 7:30 to sort steers and tag calves.

Day 5: Breakfast at sun up; ride out by 7:30 to doctor cattle and check fence. Back to camp by early afternoon. Break camp and load gear into truck. Ride horses back to headquarters. Barbeque in the Vega. Enjoy a roundtable discussion with staff of your challenges and successes during the week.

Day 6: Breakfast on your own. Pack up and head out by 10:00 a.m. Happy trails!

The ranch is not licensed to serve alcoholic beverages; however, you are invited to bring your own spirits and alcohol and serve yourself.

Parents are responsible for the comfort of their children in the saddle and around camp.
