This ranch is first and foremost a cattle ranch. Year-round, guests are involved in the day-to-day activities of a large-scale cattle operation: branding, cattledrives, fixing fence, feeding with a team of draft horses, riding large pastures, and calving. Time-honored traditions have remained the heartbeat of the ranch and guests are invited to participate in a truly historical experience: the opportunity to go back in time and ride large pastures, drive hundreds of cattle on horseback, and brand with the aid of good roping horses and cowboys.

Early risers can see the ranch's remuda of horses being run in for the day's work, enjoy a cup of coffee with the ranch-hands as they determine the various jobs for the day, or partake in the flow of the daily events. The ranch's diverse prairies, arroyos, tree groves, natural springs, creek bottoms, and lakes create one of the richest and most diverse populations of wildlife in North America. This environment affords guests a variety of "non-ranch-related" activities as well -birdwatching, canoeing, fishing, field sketching and painting, wildlife photography, hiking, ice-skating, swimming and target practice to name few. Guests leave with a true understanding of how traditional, and progressive holistic ranching methods are more efficient when used together in well-managed combination.

Five spring-fed ponds and lakes, surrounded by cottonwood trees, are a perfect spot for relaxation at the end of a day. The ranch hands and family will often meet at the May Pond for an evening of swimming, canoeing, fishing, and barbecuing.

There are literally hundreds of miles of trails, tracks, and country roads to explore on foot. If you desire a break from the busy days, grab a lunch and head for the perfect view of 14,000 ft Pikes Peak or wander along the riparian pathways of Chico Creek.

Chico Basin is well known for its rich abundance, and preservation, of wildlife. Flourishing with deer, antelope, coyotes, prairie dogs, turtles, eagles, blue heron and more, inspirational subjects abound for those interested in field sketching, painting, or photography. Cholla, yucca, and Chico brush reach across the expanse of open prairie to rest at the foot of the Rocky Mountains; and as late afternoon calms the basin with it's grand display of a magnificent sunset, a herd of antelope may thunder by in a swirling cloud of dust.

And for the colder months of the year on the Chico Basin, ice-skating becomes a terrific pastime! Rose Pond glows beneath the flame of a lantern as guests, with hot chocolate in hand, experience moonlight skating upon the silver ice.

The ranch is not licensed to serve alcoholic beverages; however, you are invited to bring your own spirits and alcohol and serve yourself.

Rate is shown per person for 7 days/ 6 nights. Child rate applies for children 12 and under. Pick-up from Colorado Springs Airport Area hotels for $40 per person with a $100 minimum. Please reserve online, or call us toll-free at 888-307-6198.
